Mar 30 - May 30    A Dream Manifested-Gallery Show by Artist- Matt Clark
The metal objects I use in my art were originally created to perform a specific function. At some point, they outlived their usefulness, were broken, and lost their value. I surround myself with them and ask the question “What is the best purpose for this object?” I search for each piece’s innate power and then resurrect it and give it a new reason to be. For me, the transformation of these objects is symbolic of my own journey—of ultimately transcending broken dreams and heartache. My artistic process is a reenactment of my life journey. I think that has power in people’s lives. Utah artist Matt Clark will be featured in our gallery as well as the grounds of the DiFiore Center from March 31, 2019 to May31, 2019. Opening reception will be held March 30, 2019 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. This special exhibit is free to the public. May 15    Chamber Connect featuring Fly SGU

With blue clay and other expansive soils working to undermine the integrity of a section of the St. George Regional Airport (SGU) runway, the airport will be closing from May 29 to September 26, 2019. While crews work at an accelerated pace to repair 5,400 feet of runway, the City of St George Team led by Mayor Jon Pike is working with strategic partners to minimize impacts.

The team has coordinated with SkyWest to add additional flights from Salt Lake City to Cedar City (CDC) during the closure and designed a Public Involvement Plan to inform businesses and citizens during construction of the Runway Improvement Project.

We encourage you to join our team and track our progress by

  • Following us on facebook at SGU - St George Regional Airport for quick reports and interactions

  • Signing up for weekly email updates at flySGU.org/closure

We appreciate your patience and look forward to added direct service to Dallas/Fort Worth when we reopen September 26.

About Richard Stehmeier
Richard has been in aviation for more than 30 years. He has worked both sides of the airport, in airfield management and as a pilot. This experience has helped him understand and relate to all types of airport operators. For the past eight years he has been directing the growth of the St. George Regional Airport. During his tenure the airport has grown from one airline to four airlines (Delta, United, American and Allegiant Air) and have flights have grown from four flights a day to 11 round trip daily flights to four major hubs.
He cut his airport director’s teeth in Logan, Utah, for 6 years at the Logan-Cache airport.  He guided the development of that airport from a sleepy General Aviation airport to a commercial airport in the first year of his tenure. “That was a serious learning curve,” he said.
In his previous life, before managing airports, Richard spent 12 years in the USAF as an Aerial Port Specialist for the first four years, then as a C-141B Pilot/Instructor Pilot and Command Post Duty Officer.
He has a Business Management degree, with an emphasis in Marketing, from California State University at San Bernardino. He is also an American Association of Airport Executives, Certified Manager. He’s been married to his wife Georgia for 38 years, has five children and 15 grandchildren.
