May 2    Chamber Inspiration Luncheon featuring Lyman Hafen
Lyman Hafen is a native of St. George, Utah. He grew up on the southern edge of what was then a small town and as a boy developed a strong sense of place roaming the broken landscape and listening to the stories his father told.
He became a horseman on the family ranch in Clover Valley, Nevada, and was the 1973 Utah State High School Rodeo All Around Champion. He graduated from Dixie High School in 1973, and Dixie College, where he was also a member of the rodeo team, in 1977.
He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Argentina from 1974-76.  He credits his English professor Ed Reber and his mentor Karl Brooks at Dixie College with turning his focus from riding to writing.
In 1977 the most important event in his life occurred when he married Debbie Frei of Santa Clara, Utah. Debbie has been a violin teacher and member of the Southwest Symphony since 1983.  They have six children and fourteen grandchildren.
Lyman graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelor?s degree in Communications in 1979.  Since 1980, he has been a writer, editor, publisher, and active volunteer in community, state and national organizations. He was co-founder of St. George Magazinein 1983, and was its editor for 16 years. He continues to write a monthly column for the magazine chronicling the history, culture and personality of his fast-changing hometown.
He has written twelve books of fiction and nonfiction and his writing has been honored on several occasions by the Utah Arts Council.  He has written and directed three documentary films. He was appointed by Governor Jon Huntsman to the board of directors of the Utah Arts Council. Over the years he has written numerous articles for regional and national publications, and has served as publisher of important books including Portraits of Loss ? Stories of Hope, which sparked the multi-million-dollar fundraising effort for victims of the 2005 Santa Clara-Virgin River Flood.
Since 1998, he has served as executive director of Zion Natural History Association in Zion National Park.  He founded the Zion Canyon Field Institute in 2003, and the Zion National Park Foundation in 2007. He has been a member of the board of directors of the Public Lands Alliance since 2010 and served as the president of that national organization from 2012 to 2014. Lyman looks back at his time at Dixie College as a turning point in his life. The same institution where his grandfather Arthur K. Hafen taught English, German, and Spanish for more than 40 years, is the place where he discovered a love for learning and literature, and came to terms with the idea that he would spend his life telling the compelling stories of this place to the world.

May 4    "Weird Al" Yankovic: The Ridiculously Self-Indulgent, Ill-Advised Vanity Tour
“Weird Al” Yankovic burst onto the scene over three decades ago and never looked back. For the first time in his storied career, the world’s foremost musical satirist and four-time Grammy-winner foregoes his usual high-octane, big-production show for an intimate evening of music, focusing on original (non-parody) songs from his 14-album catalog. After his 2016 world tour, including venues such as the Hollywood Bowl and Radio City Music Hall, this is a rare opportunity to get up-close and personal with this legendary performer. Weird Al’s most recent album Mandatory Fun was the first comedy album in history to debut at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 chart. In 2018 he will be awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

May 16    Chamber Connect "Intergenerational Poverty"

With 8% of youth living in intergenerational poverty (IGP) and another 30% at-risk of living in intergenerational poverty, as adults, Washington County is determined to organize & lead efforts to reduce the number of youth who will remain in this situation as adults over the next 5-10 years. There is an established IGP Task Force that consists of a wide variety of state agencies, key partners & nonprofit service providers. Join us & learn how your business can help.

Victor Iverson was elected to the Washington County Commission in 2014. As part of his commission assignment he serves on the Board of Southwest Public Health, Southwest Behavioral Health and Five County Association of Governments. Commissioner Iverson serves as First-vice President of the Utah Association of Counties, and co-chairs the Utah Counties Sub-Committee on Inter-Generational Poverty (IGP), that reports to the State Welfare Reform Commission, chaired by Lieutenant Governor Spencer Cox.

In 2016 Commissioner Iverson was asked by Lieutenant Governor Spencer Cox to form a Washington County IGP committee to write a plan to help address the high levels of inter-generational poverty in Washington County. He resides as co-chair of that Committee that works in a collaborative effort to reduce poverty and replace it with prosperity.

Commissioner Iverson and his Wife Audrey Johnson are both natives to Washington County where they chose to raise their 5 kids. His roots are deep in the county which stems from a long line of ranchers and builders. He is a graduate of Hurricane High School, Dixie College and Southern Utah University, and has spent years in the construction trades as a small business owner.

Prior to his election to the County Commission, he worked for U.S. Senator Mike Lee as the Natural Resource Advisor for the State of Utah. While natural resource issues and public lands issues are his strong point in public policy, he feels he has received the call to work to improve the economic condition of Washington County. He believes the natural beauty of our county is only matched by the goodness of our people.

May 30    Professional Women's Inspiration Luncheon featuring Michelle Delloso

Michelle Delloso has spent most of her career in the sports marketing industry and has created many “aspiration” programs that directly impact girls and women to include Dare 2 Dream (TC Sports®), Do You Have the Power to Dream? (Louisville Slugger®), adidas Futures (adidas®), and most recently, the Go Girl Futures Program®. She is also the founder of the Rim to Rim Club® of the Grand Canyon and she has worked for key brands to include Nike®, adidas®, and Louisville Slugger®.

Michelle competed in six different sports throughout her high school (Quakertown) and travel ball career to include cross country, volleyball, soccer, tennis, basketball, and softball. She earned numerous awards in tennis and softball and was named best all-around female athlete her senior year. In the summer of 1987, she decided to focus solely on the sport that tugged at her heart the most. Her relentless determination and work ethic earned her a softball scholarship to the University of South Carolina later that summer.

During her four years at USC, she became a three-time NCAA All-American in softball, NCAA Women’s College World Series player, NSCA All-American, ASA All-American, Olympic Festival Gold Medalist, and ASA National Champion, as well as a four-time All-Region selection, Honda-Broderick Cup Nominee and was named team captain three of her four collegiate years. She set the all-time record for a female athlete during the annual weight lifting competition at USC by squatting 340 lbs. in addition to running a 5:20 mile that same year. She is a proponent of athletes competing in more than one sport when they are younger and all athletes cross training to become the best athletes they can be.

Michelle went on to become a professional baseball player for the Colorado Silver Bullets. This inaugural team has been showcased in the Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, NY as the first professional women’s baseball team to compete against the men.  She also played women’s professional softball and has been inducted into the National Softball Association Hall of Fame and is also the first women’s softball player to have her name on a bat (Louisville Slugger®), as well as the first female baseball/softball player to sign an endorsement contract with Nike®.

She has been a keynote speaker at many events, including Corporate Sales Meetings, National Tournaments, WCWS events, NFCA All-American high school and college banquets, Camps and Clinics, Nike® P.L.A.Y. events via Boys and Girls Clubs, adidas Futures events, as well as various sporting events, school presentations and assemblies. The largest group she had the pleasure of speaking to was 10,000 girls at the NSA World Series. Michelle’s mission is to inspire, motivate, and build confidence in girls and women by encouraging and promoting participation in sports and outdoor activities. Michelle was recently inducted into the Quakertown-Pennridge Sports Hall of Fame in 2016 and the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame – Bucks County in 2017.

Professionally, Michelle runs her own consulting firm (Red Rock Consultants, LLC), her own empowerment program for girls and women (Go Girl Futures Program® & Go Girl® Retreats) and has recently authored and self-published the book Brand-Loyal to share her story.
