Feb 14    Chamber Training Series featuring Trevor Smith "Your Well-being and How to Balance it all While Thriving at Work"

Join us for this Wednesday's Chamber Training Series as we learn about our well-being and how to balance it all while thriving at work.

Resilience is that ineffable quality that allows some people to be knocked down by life and come back stronger than ever. Rather than letting failure overcome them and drain their resolve, they find a way to rise from the ashes. Psychologists have identified some of the factors that make someone resilient, among them a positive attitude, optimism, the ability to regulate emotions, and the ability to see failure as a form of helpful feedback. Even after misfortune, resilient people are blessed with such an outlook that they are able to change course and soldier on.
This lecture will focus on the redeeming qualities of resilience and provide helpful insight as to how one can become more resilient and turn hardship into an empowering interpretation enabling them to THRIVE! This lecture will also provide helpful resources that can be implemented at any business to cultivate a culture of health promotion and wellness.

About Trevor Smith
Dr. Trevor Smith, PhD is the Regional Director of Health Promotion and Wellness, Senior Services, and Consumer Research for Intermountain Healthcare.  He holds a bachelor of science and a master of science in exercise physiology from Southern Utah University and a PhD in health promotion and wellness.  Nike and Duke University have used the study data from Trevor’s master’s thesis in their programs. Trevor has published his research in the International Journal of Exercise Science titled “stroboscopic training improves anticipatory response” and is currently conducting research regarding “Examining Self-reported Adult Physical Activity Levels in an Integrated Health Care System”.   Prior to joining the Wellness team; Trevor spent three years in cardiac rehab working with patients recovering from various heart procedures.  Trevor also did an extensive internship with Regence Blue Cross Blue Shield of Utah creating and implementing wellness programs that cater to specialty populations.
Working with athletes, older adults, and those battling debilitating conditions on appropriate movement and exercise programs is Trevor’s specialty. Trevor often lends his expertise to organizations within the community that seek a more active lifestyle and a healthier future.

Feb 23 - Mar 24    Daddy Long Legs
Daddy Long Legs follows Jerusha Abbott, the oldest orphan in the John Grier Home, who mysteriously receives a generous grant from an anonymous benefactor, sending her to college to become a writer. Required to write him a letter once a month, she is never to know the benefactor’s identity – so she invents one for him: Daddy Long Legs. Although she knows that he will never respond to her letters, she grows more and more fond of this elusive and kindly “old” gentleman. But... another relationship soon begins to develop in Jerusha’s life with well-to-do Jervis Pendleton, who introduces her to a world of literature, travel and adventure. Through her correspondence with Daddy Long Legs and her growing intimacy with Jervis, Jerusha’s letters chronicle her emergence as a delightfully independent woman. Yet, there is one startling fact that Jerusha has yet to uncover – a fact that will change her life forever.

Expo Cards are being sold as a fundraiser for local Scouting and features a $20 BSA Expo Starving Student Card that has $400 of FREE food, entertainment and services, plus an additional $3,500 of discounts at local merchants and restaurants.

According to the BSA Executive David Peterson, "If 20 Cub Scouts and/or Boy Scouts from your Troop or Pack sell 20 tickets that Troop will receive $10 per ticket or $4,000 for their Troop or Pack. Troops can use the funds to help them with summer scout camps, purchase camping gear and awards and other items they need.
