Aug 31 - Sep 2    Peach Days Celebration

The 19th Annual Peach Days, "A Celebration of our Heritage", is once again drawing near!  Be sure to bring your appetite.  Food booths with all your favorite mouth-watering options will be on hand.

Peach Days wouldn't be complete without the rodeo, entertainment, parade, Pioneer Corner, 12K Fun Run, and the Peach Cook-Off.  The Hurricane Canal Trek, quilt show, and a wide variety of booths displaying commercial and homemade goods will also be included.  The traditional displays, always a staple of the event, will be featured in the Hurricane Elementary building.  Plan now to prepare an entry.  Categories include home arts, fine arts, garden, and baked or bottled goods.

Community participation is what makes the Peach Days displays a success.  Prizes are only awarded to top-placing entries in each division, but all entries are awarded a ribbon and will be truly enjoyed by thousands of event-goers.  So, as the summer progresses, watch for a special photo opportunity, finish a painting or afghan, or tend your garden with extra care and plan to share your harvest of talent with us in August.

Plan to be a part of Peach Days 2017.  This treasured event is a great opportunity for new and old friends to mingle as we celebrate Hurricane's heritage.

Sep 20    Chamber Connect featuring UDOT "Zero Fatalities"

There is no specific road that deserves this label because each road has its own characteristics, including the people who drive it. All roads are designed and built to be safe. For instance, while it is in most locations the biggest and straightest roadway, I-15 is the roadway that carries the most people for the longest numbers of miles and has the highest number of fatalities.

WHEN IT COMES TO YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY, ZERO FATALITIES IS THE ONLY ACCEPTABLE NUMBER

Zero Fatalities is all about eliminating fatalities on our roadways. Some people may think zero is an impossible goal, but when it comes to your life, or the lives of your friends and family, what other number would be acceptable? Sep 26    Washington County Flu Shoot-Out

The Southwest Utah Public Health Department (SWUPHD) will be holding its annual Flu Shoot-out in St. George on Tuesday, September 26th at Red Cliffs Mall. Residents can get their flu shot while helping the SWUPHD and community partners practice their emergency response plans.

“When flu vaccine arrived during the 2009 H1N1 pandemic, we were ready”, said Paulette Valentine, SWUPHD Emergency Preparedness and Response Director.  “We had just finished our seasonal Flu Shoot-out where we try to give as many vaccines as possible in a short period of time. This helps us prepare for mass distribution of medicine and supplies in case of an actual health emergency, so when the H1N1 vaccine came in we were able to get it to our community quickly and efficiently.”

About Staheli Family Farm
Staheli Family Farm was established in 1889 by Frank Staheli Sr., a vegetable farmer and immigrant from Switzerland. Frank was not only one of the first mayors in Washington, Utah but an agricultural pioneer who built the first rock irrigation ditches here- the primary irrigation system still used today.

Over the years, the farm has been used for a variety of agricultural experiments through a university extension program and has played a major role in the St. George and Washington agricultural history. Staheli Family Farm has primarily produced beef, alfalfa, and sugar beets. Over twelve years ago, we saw a need to educate children about where food comes from and decided to incorporate agritourism into our business model. Each year, we now host an average of 30,000 corn maize visitors during the month of October alone!
