Dr. James Reilly, former NASA Astronaut is a special guest speaker for the Southern Utah Home Builders Association. However, his presentation will be applicable to any business, large or small that. The focus will be on: Continuous Improvement (CI) practices Plan, Brief, Execute, Debrief, Replan (PBED-R) Find your risks, train to protect and increase your safety margins. “What’s the worst that can happen?” The Deepwater Horizon drilling rig accident The Columbia Accident: A Lesson in Management and Communications Breakdowns We forgot we needed to be as safe as we could Protect your margins Listen to the Troops! Instructor: Dr. Jim Reilly is a former NASA Astronaut who flew 3 missions on the Space Shuttle. On two of those missions he conducted five space walks to assemble the International Space Station. He will talk about the fun and challenges of assembling a housing facility and laboratory in space while the residents are already living there. Prior to working at NASA for 13 years, Jim was an exploration geologist working on the frontiers of the industry. As part of his work, he spent 22 days underwater in submarines exploring the seafloor at water depths to 3100’. Before becoming a geologist, Jim had a “real job” as a roofer in Dallas, Texas.

Jun 7    Chamber Inspiration Luncheon featuring Dr. Wayne Provost

Dr. Wayne Provost graduated from the University of Utah and Georgetown University, and has always been active in the communities he has lived in.  He was the Chairman for the Utah March of Dimes Walkathon for two years, and Chairman of Walk America for the American Diabetes Association for the state of Utah.  He has served on the Board of Governors for the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce, the Phoenix Chamber of Commerce, and the Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce.  Dr. Provost has served on several boards including Ballet West, FHP Health Care Hospital Board, and was a business advisor for Delta Airlines.  He has donated medical patents to help pediatric cancer patients, and has been an active member of the Make-A-Wish Foundation.  With his wife, Donna and daughter Emma, he founded Teens Kickin Cancer, a youth leadership program that helped children undergoing chemotherapy as well as as their families.  Dr. Provost was nominated by the Salt Lake Jaycees for the Ten Outstanding Young Americans Award for his help in cofounding Project Realty in Salt Lake City.  He received an honorable discharge, as an officer, in the U.S. Navy.
Dr. Provost has founded and cofounded over 12 different companies.  Some examples are: Eco Log Lighters, which is a totally green way to light wood burning stoves and the like.  P5 e Health Services, a digitized health care serviced that functioned as a third-party administrator for Motel 6, Red Roof Inns, Phillips Petroleum, and various other companies.  P5 Provider Pay, which introduced a paperless medical claims and payment system for health care providers.  Provost Health Care Consulting, where he set up health care networks for Sinclair Oil, Little America Hotels, and Sun Valley Ski Resort.  He is also the founder of Mountain States Professional Association, and New England Professional Association, and past cofounder of First Professional Bank.
Wayne presently serves as Director of the Innovation Guidance and Solutions Center for Dixie State University in St. George, Utah.  In this position he helps students, faculty, and the community through the patent process.  His goal is to turn ideas into viable businesses for the students, and faculty of Dixie State University, and for the community members of St. George.  Prior to moving to St. George, Dr. Provost was the Chairman of Eco Log Lighters in Las Vegas, Nevada and has served as the past Chairman of the Board for P5 Provider Pay and P5 E Health Services in Salt Lake.  Along with several other businesses he has started, he was also the President of FHP Health Care Utah, President of FHP Health Care New Mexico, and Chief Operating Officer for FHP Health Care Arizona.  He began his working career in Salt Lake City as a Doctor of Dental Surgery from which he retired in 1987.  For the past 45 years, he has helped individuals turn their ideas into patents and productive businesses.  He holds several patents and pending patents ranging from mechanical devices, dental devices, and medical devices and software.  He is presently assisting 60 individuals at Dixie State University and in the St. George community.

Jun 9    Sunset on the Square: "Princess Bride"
With more than 300 days of sunshine in Southern Utah, there are plenty of reasons to get out there and enjoy your day! For 9 years now, there have been even more reasons to get out there and enjoy St. George under the stars too! Sunset on the Square (SOTS) has become a staple for locals during the summer months. The Friday night FREE family movie series plays on a giant outdoor movie screen and is hosted by Write It Up! in partnership with the City of St. George. Led by Dawn McLain, the series has become known for its family friendly fun, prizes, movies and so much more. Town Square hosts the events held on the second and fourth Friday of each month May 26th through August 25th in the City of St. George. SOTS has been a huge success averaging close to 2000 attendees per event, and even more on special event nights such as the Season Kick Off, Nonprofit Night and City of St. George Night.

While the event is free, donations can be made to support the work of Memory Matters, a nonprofit organization based in St. George working to reduce isolation and improve wellness for individuals with dementia and their caregivers in Southern Utah and Nevada through activities, support, education and consultation.

Utah has one of the highest suicide rates in the country and is the 8th leading cause of death overall in our state.  On an average, one person dies by suicide every 15.6 hours in the state.  Suicide cost Utah a total of $629,958,000 of combined lifetime medical and work loss in 2010, or an average of $1.3 million per suicide death.  It's the third leading cause of death for ages 10-14; the second leading cause of death for ages 15-44; and the 4th leading cause of death for ages 45-54
QPR-QUESTION, PERSUADE, REFER
At this community connect, we'll get a preview of the County's QPR training that enables people to save a life by asking a simple question:  "Are you contemplating suicide?"  Learn how to become a gatekeeper by recognizing a crisis and warning signs that someone may be contemplating suicide. This training is geared toward raising awareness about suicide, and the myths and misunderstandings surrounding it.

Jun 23    Sunset on the Square: "Storks"
With more than 300 days of sunshine in Southern Utah, there are plenty of reasons to get out there and enjoy your day! For 9 years now, there have been even more reasons to get out there and enjoy St. George under the stars too! Sunset on the Square (SOTS) has become a staple for locals during the summer months. The Friday night FREE family movie series plays on a giant outdoor movie screen and is hosted by Write It Up! in partnership with the City of St. George. Led by Dawn McLain, the series has become known for its family friendly fun, prizes, movies and so much more. Town Square hosts the events held on the second and fourth Friday of each month May 26th through August 25th in the City of St. George. SOTS has been a huge success averaging close to 2000 attendees per event, and even more on special event nights such as the Season Kick Off, Nonprofit Night and City of St. George Night.

Jun 26    Precision Hearing Monday Matinee featuring "Cool Hand Luke" 1967
Classic movies like “Old Yeller” and “Swiss Family Robinson” will be shown on the big screen once again this summer starting Monday in weekly matinees at The Electric Theater in St. George in support of a good cause.
Precision Hearing has teamed with Memory Matters Utah for the “The Precision Hearing Monday Matinee series,” a free community event held Mondays at 1 p.m. May 29 through August 28.
While the event is free, donations can be made to support the work of Memory Matters, a nonprofit organization based in St. George working to reduce isolation and improve wellness for individuals with dementia and their caregivers in Southern Utah and Nevada through activities, support, education and consultation.
Some of the classic films from the 1950s and 60s to be screened include:

The Utah Shakespeare Festival is a regional Tony-Award winning professional repertory theatre company that produces Shakespeare, classical drama, and musicals. Other related activities include Greenshows, orientations, seminars, classes, backstage tours, Words Cubed new play series, and a Shakespeare-in-the-Schools tour. Nine plays are performed in rotation in two state-of-the-art indoor theatres, as well as a brand new outdoor theatre resembling an Elizabethan playhouse. The season begins the end of June and runs through October each year. Founded in 1961, it is one of the oldest and largest Shakespearean festivals in North America. The 2017 season includes Shakespeare's As You Like It, Romeo and Juliet, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, as well as Shakespeare in Love, Guys and Dolls, Treasure Island, The Tavern, How To Fight Loneliness, and William Shakespeare’s Long Lost First Play (abridged).
