Dr. Peter Gitau is the Vice President for Student Affairs at Dixie State University in Southern Utah where he leads comprehensive division of over 20 departments. As the Founder and President of the African International Foundation for Educational Excellence (AIFEE), a volunteer non-profit organization with service learning sites and community development initiatives in sub-Saharan Africa, Dr Gitau has facilitated the international engagement of hundreds of students, faculty, staff and community members. Dr Gitau is an accomplished leader and advocate for global engagement, diversity and inclusiveness.
With over 15 years of executive higher education management, Dr Gitau?s professional experiences include serving as the Vice President for Student Affairs at Northern Kentucky University and Associate Vice Chancellor and Dean of Students at SIU Carbondale. He is a seasoned Chief Student Affairs Officer and has supervised comprehensive Student Affairs departments, overseen complex capital projects and developed cross- divisional student success initiatives. Guided by a philosophy of student centeredness, Dr Gitau believes that every student can learn, and continues to play the role of mentor, advocate and educator.
Born and brought up in a rural village in Kenya, Dr. Gitau received his bachelors degree in Secondary Education from Kenyatta University in Nairobi, Kenya. After coming to the United States as an international student, he earned a Master?s degree in Educational Administration from Eastern Illinois University and a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from the University of Kansas.
